Ben holds a special place at ALACIE. Named after Ryan’s paternal grandfather, Benjamin Gabriel, he became the hunting partner who helped shape Ryan’s understanding of dogs and the direction his life would take.

Ryan’s first dog turned out to be gun-shy and never hunted. Then came Ben. Throughout high school, Ben was beside him for geese, ducks, upland birds, and especially doves. He became the dog Ryan could share those days with, building a partnership through time, experience, and countless hours outdoors.

Dove season has always been Ben’s favorite. His enthusiasm for the hunt and willingness to work made him a familiar companion to anyone who hunted with Ryan. Those shared seasons became an important part of the foundation on which ALACIE was built.

Ben taught Ryan lessons that still influence the program today. A dog’s value shows through its work, its desire, and the relationship it develops with its handler. Hunting together gave Ryan an appreciation for practical ability and the trust that grows between a person and a dog.

As Ben’s best hunting years begin to slow down, his place at ALACIE remains unchanged. He is a beloved companion and a lasting connection to the early days—a dog whose influence reaches far beyond the birds he retrieved.
